Most homeowners are afraid of break-ins and take great precautions to prevent them. Even a petty burglary can escalate into something dangerous, and it's especially concerning when you have a young child in the house.

But one family's run-in with a suspicious stranger shows the big impact a simple security system can make---and how it all could've gone a lot differently.

On May 2, in Sydney, Australia, a mother named Jrisi Jusakos and her 2-year-old daughter were sleeping inside. Her husband, Tristian Baker, was miles away at work.

Footage was released of a cyclist who was thrown off his bicycle after being rear-ended by a car in September in east Brisbane, leading a furious exchange as the driver attempted to pay his way out of the collision. Cyclist Geoffrey James was riding to work in September when a driver reportedly blinded by the glare of the sun hit his bike. The video was released by Bicycle Queensland as part of a new campaign to highlight the perils for Queensland cyclists, eight of whom were killed on the roads in 2017, according to the Courier Mail. The footage shows that after the impact, the motorist repeatedly offers to pay James, who is still lying on the ground and yelling at the driver and nearby bystanders to call for an ambulance and the police. “I’m really sorry, man. I’ll pay you, I’ll pay you, man,” the driver can be heard saying to James. “Please man, I’m running late to work. Nothing happened, man. I’ll pay you right now, I’ll pay you cash, man.” James said he suffered back injuries. It was unknown whether the driver was charged. Credit: Geoffrey James via ViralVids
