One climber fell to his death and several others had to be rescued after conditions turned treacherous on Oregon's tallest mountain.

More than a half-dozen people were climbing near Mount Hood's peak. A climber fell about 1,000 feet.

Other climbers performed CPR on the man before he was airlifted by an helicopter to a hospital.

Sergeant Brian Jensen from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said, “We have just brought down two of the climbers that have been stranded in Hog's Back… They were part of the original climbing crew—that included the gentleman who fell.”

He was later declared dead.

Authorities have not released his identity.
