Dubai's Self-Flying Helicopter Taxi Doesn't Need Roads Where It's Going
videoelephant

Would you hail an autonomous air taxi?

Dubai's latest hope to alleviate ground traffic is a flying copter that can transport two passengers for up to 30 minutes. The copter can reach speeds of 60 mph and doesn't require a pilot. The hover-taxi prototype recently had its first launch, without passengers.

It could be another five years before the taxi can ferry passengers for real, but there's already at least one other competitor aiming to be in the air. Looks like Dubai's race to own the skies is heating up.

Addicted to Social Media? Company Says It Can Help You Restore Your 'Tech-Life Balance'

Are you addicted to social media? Whether it's clinically an addiction or not, the social media habit can be very difficult to break. Gabe Zichermann and his team at Onward have made it their mission to help you restore what they call "tech/life balance."

Americans check their phones, on average, 115 times a day, Zichermann said. Meanwhile, most people can't predict "with any degree of certainty" how much they use their phones, he said.

Their app, Onward, tracks a person's activity on his/hers phone and provides the user with reports as well as some options to regulate excessive use, including blocking selected websites and apps.

The app charges $15 a month. The company said it has no plans to sell or share users’ personal information right now, CBS reported.

Sarah Jessica Parker is clearing the air about her feud with former Sex and the City costar Kim Cattrall.
Last year it was revealed that Cattrall had backed out of 'Sex and the City 3' due to a feud with Parker.
Cattrall has lashed out at Parker, calling her mean and nasty.
Parker told Vulture her side of things.
“I’d just like to remind everybody that there is no catfight."
“I’ve always held Kim’s work in high regard and always appreciative of her contributions. If she chooses not to do the third movie, there’s not a lot I can do to change her mind and we must respect it. That’s the only thing I’ve ever said about it, you know?”

Stunning Video Shows Cosmic 'Snow' On Comet 67P

A GIF using images captured by the European Space Agency’s Rosetta probe shows what appears to be heavy snow falling on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

The pictures were captured on June 1, 2016, but only released in March. The sequence of images was compiled into a GIF by Twitter user landru79 and posted on Monday, April 23.

What appears to be snow could be dust particles and/or high energy particles hitting the camera sensor, Gizmodo reported. Many of the spots are also stars in the background.

Rosetta was launched in 2004 and reached the comet in 2014. On Sept. 30, 2016, it crashed into the comet's surface, providing close ups of the cosmic object.

School Lunches Is A Serious Competition In Japan
videoelephant

These lunches look totally adorable, with colorful food that looks like cute creatures or popular characters. Most people would probably like to have their lunch look like this, regardless of their age. However, as cute as these lunches may be, they have a bit of a dark side. Having the best school lunch in Japan is a serious competition — even between parents. Parents can spend up to 90 minutes making the perfect lunch, just so their kid’s lunch won’t be called lame. They turn rice into pandas, Disney characters, and more — doing this is called kyaraben.

In Japan, moms usually make lunch, and many moms will think it’ll look bad if their child doesn’t have a good-looking lunch at school. Some kids even get bullied if they don’t have good lunch designs. All this causes problems for moms who simply don’t have the time. Some school are even banning kyaraben to prevent bullying.

Traditionally, Japanese children take a bento box for lunch — the box separates food groups like rice, veggies and protein. Kyaraben started out as a tool to help kids eat healthier. Cute-themed food is also highly popular in Japan already — so there’s even more pressure to make cute lunches for kids.

Woman Fined $500 For Taking Apple Off Plane

Last week, Crystal Tadlock arrived in Minneapolis after an 8½-hour flight from Paris.
She saved an apple that Delta served on the flight, as part of their in-flight meal.
She thought nothing of it, until she was searched by a Customs and Border Protection Agent.
They found the apple in her bag and fined her $500!
Why?
Because as CNN reports, "Apples, and most forms of fresh produce, are typically a customs violation and need to be declared on a passenger's customs form."
In addition to the fine, Crystal's Global Entry status was also revoked for the civil violation.
She now has 20 days to pay the fine.
Crystal asked "Why give fruit? Just hand out granola bars or something that won't cause an issue."
When she reached out to Delta, they reportedly responded by tweeting the agricultural rules and regulations. It says that "many food products are prohibited entry into the US because may carry plant pests and foreign animal diseases."

Though it lags behind its competitors in terms of e-commerce, the 1,800 store chain has cracked the code on how to make its customers buy more once they're in stores. Analysts say this is partly because of its in-store services and treasure hunt experience. The age-old saying goes that if you walk into Target to buy one thing, you'll almost certainly leave with 100 more.

12-Year-Old Steals Credit Card, Flies to Bali After Fight with Mom
videoelephant

A 12-year-old Australian boy has pulled off a major mischief that is drawing international headlines: He stole his mom's credit card and managed to fly to Bali, Indonesia, for a posh, four-day vacation before getting caught.

The Sydney boy, whose name hasn't been released, got into an argument with his mother and decided to go on a vacation all by himself. He went through his mom's bag and stole her credit card. He then attempted to buy a flight ticket to Bali with Qantas and Garuda, but both airlines refused him for his age. He had more luck with the budget airline Jetstar—all he needed was a passport and a student ID. He managed to convince his grandmother to say where was his passport, took it, and booked the flight—first to Perth and then to Denpasar, Bali. He packed his bag, took his scooter, and said he was going to school, but took a train to the airport instead.

He went through self check-in and when boarding the attendant asked if he was traveling alone. He said "no," but the attendant checked and found out the boy was indeed about to fly alone. Still, the attendant let him through, the boy said at the Fitzy and Wippa radio show on Nova 96.9.

Once in Bali, he used the Indonesian ride hailing app Go Jek to get to the All Seasons Hotel, already booked online, and told the staff he was waiting for his sister to arrive and just checking in early.

Over the next four days, he was enjoying himself, rented a bike, and even drank a beer on a beach. He didn't like it, he said.

Meanwhile, the mom informed the the New South Wales as well as the federal police. But the authorities assured her, she said, that the boy couldn't possibly leave the country. Only after the boy posted a video of himself playing in a pool in Bali and shared his location with a friend the parents found out his whereabouts.

The Indonesian police was contacted and went to detain the boy. He locked himself in a his hotel room, but the police unscrewed a window and took him to a police station. He wasn't arrested and his parents only had 24 hours to come get him, since the police can't hold a person longer than 24 hours without an arrest.

The boy was grounded and the mom is now asking how was it possible the boy could board an international flight to begin with.

Jetstar told 9 News it would be putting measures in place to ensure a similar incident won't happen again.
